Highways

A major factor in the decision-making process for locating businesses is access to quality transportation, particularly interstate highways. Cass County is served with a strong connectivity through an interstate and state highway system that includes Interstate 49 (U.S. Rte. 71), and Routes 291, 2, 7, 58 and 291. Interstate 49 (I-49), http://www.interstate49.org, is an Interstate Highway in the State of Missouri that was designated on December 12, 2012. It overlaps U.S. Route 71 (US 71) in the western part of the state, beginning at Pineville, just a few miles north of the Arkansas state line, and ending at I-435 and I-470 on the southeast side of Kansas City.

I-49 is planned to extend south into Arkansas upon completion of a bypass of Bella Vista, Arkansas, connecting to the new northern Arkansas segment of I-49 (formerly part of I-540 to Fort Smith). Eventually, the highway is intended to connect with I-49 in Louisiana, connecting Kansas City to Texarkana, Shreveport, and Lafayette, Louisiana

The 30-mile stretch of I-49 in Cass County contains 11 interchanges and serves the communities of Belton, Raymore, Peculiar, Harrisonville and Archie.

Airports

As one of Missouri’s regional airports and the only public-use airport located in Cass County, the Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport serves the area’s business community. Conveniently located just three miles south of the historic Harrisonville Square at the intersection of I-49 and Hwy 7, the Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport has been serving the aviation needs of Harrisonville and surrounding areas since 1984.

The airport is operated by the City of Harrisonville as a division of the Public Works Department and is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Plan of Integrated Airports System (NPIAS) and Missouri’s State Aviation System Plan (MSASP).

The airport’s 4,000 X 75 foot, lighted runway utilizes Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI).  The airport provides a 24/7 self-service Avgas fuel facility, hanger space, pilot and passenger facilities including a pilot lounge area and courtesy car.
